Chemical Industry
Industries · Industries overview
Chemical industry biological monitoring covers process operators, maintenance fitters, sampling technicians and laboratory analysts — each with substance-specific exposure profiles drawn from the site's COMAH/COSHH register.
Process operator panel
Routine sampling rounds, vessel loading and packing operations dominate exposure. Substance-specific biomarkers are selected from the site COSHH inventory; for batch operations a baseline plus end-of-campaign sample is common.
Maintenance and turnaround
Vessel entry, gasket replacement and pump rebuilds during turnaround produce concentrated short-term exposures. Pre- and post-task biomonitoring of relevant biomarkers verifies that supplied-air RPE and dermal PPE are limiting uptake during these critical activities.
Laboratory and pilot plant
Analytical and process-development laboratories handle a wide variety of substances at lab scale. A flexible programme — substance-targeted sampling triggered by specific projects rather than fixed annual rounds — fits the variable exposure pattern better than scheduled cohort sampling.
