MDI Urine Testing
Isocyanates · Isocyanates overview
MDI urine testing measures urinary 4,4'-methylene dianiline (MDA) as the standard biomarker for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate exposure in polyurethane manufacture, spray coatings and adhesives.
Biomarker and method
Urinary MDA is liberated by acid hydrolysis of urine, then quantified by LC-MS/MS. Reporting is per mol creatinine. The HSE BMGV is 1 µmol/mol creatinine.
Typical exposure scenarios
PU foam mixing and pour stations, MDI-based adhesive application, spray coating with polyaspartic or polyurethane systems, and maintenance tasks on cured PU lines are all routinely monitored.
