TDI Urine Testing
Isocyanates · Isocyanates overview
TDI urine testing measures urinary toluene diamine (TDA) isomers as the biomarker for toluene diisocyanate exposure in flexible foam, surface coating and elastomer manufacture.
Biomarker and method
Both 2,4-TDA and 2,6-TDA are measured following acid hydrolysis; the sum is reported per mol creatinine. The HSE BMGV is 1 µmol/mol creatinine for the sum.
Sectors monitored
Flexible PU foam production, TDI-based coatings, and certain elastomer and adhesive operations. TDI is more volatile than MDI and demands particular attention to LEV at mixing and pour stations.
